Assignment 21A

For this assignment I read How To Fail At Almost Everything And Still Win Big by Scott Adams. This book explains the different situations in Scott Adams’ career and life in which he failed and then eventually succeeded. He also shares the lessons that he learned along the way and gives some really good advice about how you can take control of your own life in order to succeed. I think that this book relates best to this class in that he talks about sampling jobs to find the right one for you. He says that you should take risks so you can experience new things and eventually hone in on what you will do. I find this strikingly similar to adapting our product/service ideas in this class based on customer feedback and interviews. Just like he eventually honed in on what he would do for his career, we all have had to change our ideas, making them better and better along the way. He talks about living healthier and managing your energy a lot in this book. For an assignment, I would say creating a system and schedule in which you think you will increase your overall energy and productivity could be a cool addition to this class. I was surprised that he said to take care of yourself first, because it seems selfish off the bat. He later explained how you are only a burden to everyone else when you don’t take care of yourself so that was an aha moment for me.

  1. Patrick,

This book sounds like a good read. The idea of taking control of one's own life is essential to the success of entrepreneurship. Most successful entreprenuers believe they control their life path with contributes to their work ethic. I like your idea about creating a schedule about increasing energy and productivity since those are life skills. I would enjoy participating in an assignment like this.

  2. This seems like a very interesting book. I almost chose this book to read, but changed my mind last minute. This also reminds me of the autobiography that I read for our first reading assignment, Shoe Dog. The founder of Nike also talked about his struggles in creating his now successful shoes business. I know that it is never easy to start something from nothing and you will more than likely fail a few times before you actually succeed.

  3. Self control in everyday decision-making is truly important to the person you are going to become later in life. I’m glad you were able to find this book useful towards impacting other people on how you treat yourself. It is very important to keep a well regimented schedule to your life because once something gets out of balance it is hard to restore.
