Assignment 30A

I honestly think the most formative experience I have had in this class was the first assignment in which we had to list 20 things that bug us and why they exist. This was the foundation of the whole class and introduced a new way of thinking about problems that people have and how to solve them.
I don’t think that I will ever forget the reading assignments considering I had to read books for them. That isn’t really something you forget especially when it teaches you something and isn’t fiction. The most joyous experience were probably the interviews since I had an excuse to reconnect with people in my life that I hadn’t talked to in a while. And I am most proud of myself for actually completing all but one of these assignments. I have not had a class structured with this much consistent homework since high school so that was a challenge for me.
Like I said before, I think this class has definitely taught me how to look at problems from the view of trying to solve them for people. I consider that an entrepreneurial mindset which I did not have before. The best advice for new students in this class is to stay on top of your work. It is easy to get behind and have to read an entire book in a day to finish an assignment. Also, I would just say to be open to constructive criticism and to take it into account when you’re adapting your idea. That will help you not only in this class but in other aspects of life as well.

Free Money Extra Credit

·       Where will you go?
    • I am going to go to the Gate station on 13th and 5th to try to get peoples’ attention as they walk in or out of the store. I don’t think this will be an issue.
·       What kind of people will you approach?
    • I honestly will approach the first 5 people I see.
·       What will you say to get the conversation started?
    • I’ll say “Hey, can you take this dollar?”
·       What is your plan for the conversation?
    • I will tell them that I am conducting a social experiment to see how people react to unexpected situations.
·       Out of five attempts, how many dollar bills do you think you will be able to give away.
    • Probably 3 or 4 because I bet people will just walk by without listening to me. That is what I do if I ever walk through Turlington so I think other people probably do the same.

Results/Reflection: I was able to give away 4 dollars. I was kind of surprised that people actually took the money without much hesitation because I would be very suspicious if someone did that to me. Something I noticed was that 3 out of the 4 people who accepted the dollar were somewhat confused about it but just carried on after that. Also, it was interesting to me that no one even asked why I was giving away a dollar. I guess it is just in my nature but I would definitely think that I was being pranked or something. I guess my main assumption that was wrong was the fact that people would have just walked by without acknowledging me. Something I also thought was cool about this assignment was the fact that I was nervous to approach the first person but after that encounter I felt confident to walk up to the other 4 people. Giving a dollar away was definitely easier than I had thought before doing this assignment and I thought it was cool to see different peoples’ reactions.
