Throughout my life,
I have consistently been exposed to entrepreneurship because my dad is an
entrepreneur in a sense. He has always strived to “be his own boss” and has
started multiple ventures to satisfy this need. Before I was born, he started a
boat business in Orlando and I watched the business grow and develop throughout
my childhood. After leaving the boat business, he became an insurance agent and
started building a book of business. This was something he had never done
before so it was difficult for him to break into successfully. Most recently,
he started a roofing company which he currently runs, and it has been extremely
successful. I actually worked for him last summer, so I got to see everything
that was going on each and every day. Learning through osmosis, I have realized
how difficult it is to start a business and the financial risks that you are
exposed to during the early stages. Also, I now know that once I have started
my career and hopefully been successful, I would eventually like to start my
own business.
Honestly, I
enrolled in ENT3003 because it satisfies an elective requirement that I need to
graduate and it was offered online during the summer. There really isn’t
anything else that went into my decision to take the class. I read on
ratemyprosser.com that this class is actually interesting so I am hoping to
have a good experience this summer.

Hi Patrick,
ReplyDeleteGood for your Dad on starting his own successful business; that is probably one of the hardest things to do and it shows a lot about him that he was able to do this. The financial risk is probably the biggest reason people avoid going into business for themselves; there is a lot to risk and no guarantee of a reward at the end. I'm sure this class will teach you a lot in the end.
